York County is located in the South Central Region of Pennsylvania, and in recent decades has been an area of dynamic growth. The principal development area in the county encompasses the City of York and adjacent municipalities and accounts for nearly half of the population. An equally dynamic, but smaller development area, is centered around the Borough of Hanover.

Foreign-Trade Zone 147

Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) 147 is a regional economic development project that encompasses nine counties, including York County. There are numerous FTZ designated sites within the county, including GlaxoSmithKline.

In addition, York County has an active general purpose warehouse at Southern Cross Logistics. A general purpose warehouse is a facility operated by an FTZ designated user, which in turn allows the general public use of and access to zone benefits.
